Young Blackbird

This young blackbird makes me smile:
He's got attitude. He's got style:
Lost some feathers, growing more,
Sharp of eye and beak and claw.

This young blackbird makes me stop
to watch him gathering seeds that drop
from up above, where finches peck
and send seeds flying to hit the deck.

This young blackbird, he'll be back
day after day - he's learned the knack
of feeding well with effort: nil!
This young blackbird, he can chill.
