Courgette flowers at the allotment
An allotment morning, taming the unruly and vigorous raspberries which insist on sprouting shoots all over the place especially outside the wire restrainers. Added a third strand of wire and managed to coral them into better order.
The courgette flowers were spectacular this morning, I was tempted to try picking the flowers and deep frying in tempura batter but didn’t have the time or the ingredients.
Then it was a case of digging spuds, cutting courgettes, picking broad beans and dwarf beans. Planted out more leeks and the remnants of bedding plants that Susan grew for her pot. Picked a load of red gooseberries and a tub of black currants. Finally a bit of feeding and much watering. It’s desperately dry, we could do with rain.
This afternoon we walked into town to pay in cheques and buy a few things and particularly to check out colours for a new fence which should be delivered tomorrow. You know what I’ll be doing for the rest of the week!
