South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist

Lovely, easy day, with very little wind or climb so we didn’t feel the miles. Cycling in lovely countryside, though machairs with a lot of wild flowers. A landscape of water, there seems to be more water than land sometimes. We took a detour to see a chambered cairn but it was blocked to a previous rock fall. The area was nice so still worth it. Our accommodation was in Paibles in North Uist - a set of pods with lots of turf on the roof, we got there in good time and had time for an invigorating swim at the nearby beach - beautiful white sand a clear water - before showering and hopping back on our bikes to cycle to the nearest pub/inn for great evening meal and a couple of glasses of wine. When we got back to the pods, the other residents - a group of English farmers going to sheep dog trials, another English couple and a Scottish couple had organised an impromptu ceilidh, whereby the Scottish woman was trying to teach the rest how to do the dances. A lot of alcohol had been consumed so It was pretty disorganised. We joined in - no point in trying to sleep anyway- and it was very friendly way to end the day.
