Ruins o Clumlie

A breezy day at times, and drizzle first thing.  The sun popped out for a moment, and then dulled down, and mist over the hills.  The sun made another appearance at teatime, before clouding over again!

My Sunday on at the Croft House Museum.  It was quiet first thing, but soon picked up, and had a really busy day.  Ian and Margaret invited me over for Sunday lunch with them at Troswick.  A quiet spell this evening, before meeting friend Julie, and we headed walkies with the dogs to Asta.  I'm off to meet friends in the pub later.  They're up from Glasgow and head home soon.

As I was heading home, the sun came out, so I quickly pulled over and headed for a walk.  I went for a look around the old Clumlie broch and tounship.  The broch dates back to the iron age, and would really need my drone to see it properly (hopefully be fixed this week).  The old tounship is stunning.  It has many old abandoned houses, outbuildings, wall rigs, and nooks and crannies everywhere.  The tounship was abandoned in the 19th century clearances, but thankfully the buildings have survived.  I'd imagine the they've all been built from robbing the broch, which was common, as it was all about survival back then.  The building on the end certainly was a house, and the smaller buildings must have been small outbuildings.  Taken at Clumlie, Dunrossness.
