Following Through
Inaugural Ilkley Half Marathon today and our son in law was one of the main organisers.
So with Mike in charge , Rebecca, Mr P , myself and a friend organised the drink stations .
Mr P and Mike out before 6am to set up four water and gel stations on the route.
20,000 bottles of water had been donated by a local supplier and the promise thar we could return the empties to them for recycling.
Once the race set off we drove behind them in two Luton vans and dismantled the drink stations after they had been used and we did our upmost to pick up every empty bottle or wrapper on the route.
This inevitably meant a lot of stoping and starting and walking.
I think we did an amazing job as you wouldn’t know 2, 000 runners had passed through.
We then sorted our collection for recycling.
We also collected many of the high vis vests from some of the 270 marshals along the route.
It all went surprisingly well.
One of the best things we found out in the day was that snow shovels are fantastic for scooping up empty bottles!
Verity and Ruby worked in the race village giving out medals and goodie bags.
My iPad is really poorly only allowing about two minutes use at a time, l’ve struggled to post this and did want to add an extra of my granddaughters from last night as l’ve just managed to download them.
No success so far :-(
Update: extras on.
Thank you for the comments stars and hearts for yesterday, all appreciated x
