The March of the Mermaids

After an early morning swim, I went into town to meet my Brighton Skies buddies to watch the March of the Mermaids.   It's an annual parade along the seafront to raise awareness of our seas, and something that none of us have been to before.   It was great fun with people dressed up as mermaids, pirates and sea creatures, there were dancers and a band so they danced their way along the seafront ending at the fishing quarter.

While walking to meet my friends I passed who I think was Rod Stewart! He was actually in concert in Hove last night so it’s highly likely that he was having a stroll. I’ve added an extra, see what you think.

It was such a hot, sticky day that by the time we'd followed them down taking lots of photos, we were ready for a cold drink and sat at one of the beach bars and had a pint of cider.

While I was out, Alan made a slight modification to the decking and then gave it it's first coat of paint, but due to the heat and also that the wood was new, it really absorbed the paint leaving him short for the second coat tomorrow.  So he went to B&Q in Newhaven who didn't stock that colour and then had to drive all the way to Burgess Hill, but he's got some and can get it finished tomorrow.

Xena and Joren were up late after having a good night last night.  They didn't stay out too late though and were home at 1am apparently, and they didn't go to the club, but to a gay bar where there was a cabaret on and they said they really enjoyed it.  Joren was heading home this afternoon and before I left to go into town he said he had something for me to say thank you for letting him stay, and he'd bought us a bottle of wine which was really sweet of him.

Tonight we chilled in the garden, and had a later than planned dinner but after a full day, it was nice to unwind and we raised a glass to dad who we lost 7 years ago today - can’t believe it’s 7 years already!
