On the Beach

We were a bit more active today than yesterday and headed up to Arromanches for a morning on the beach. As always I was struck by the enormous contrast between us running around on the beach, drinking beers and eating ice creams and how it would have been seventy five years ago. It's unimaginable!
We parked up at the top of the hill and walked down into town. We walked down overgrown paths and through meadows and something didn't agree with Miss E's hay fever - setting it off horrendously. More bizarrely it also set off a reaction in Elsie who started sneezing in fits for about ten minutes. It started off funny and then got a bit worrying when it was clear she couldn't stop and was quite distressed. But it wore off eventually thank goodness.
I went to the pharmacy to get Miss E some antihistamine - despite having tons of it in the van, sigh! - but, of course it was lunchtime and the pharmacy was shut until 2.15pm. By that time it had worn off and Miss E was feeling much better.
We had our usual visit to one of the gift shops and bought Miss E a fabulous t-shirt with the names Juno, Gold, Sword, Utah and Omaha on it. Definite Blips to follow because she looks ace in it!, I bought a couple more oversized postcards to frame up and add to my collection sitting, unhung, in piles in the sun room!! and Miss L bought a lovely little glass jar labelled Sword Beach to fill with sand from the beach at St Aubin - just on the edge of Sword beach where her Great Grandad landed with the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry on DDay.
Then it was back to the campsite for hours more fun in the pool. The sun was out and it all looked glorious!!
We went to the restaurant again for dinner. I was too full after eating a big "lunch" of bread and cheese when we got back after 3pm so I just had a beer and picked at Miss L's chips!!
Mr K and I carried on with Chernobyl once we'd gone to bed. Terrifying!!
