Formal ceremony today celebrating 20 years of twinning between Hendaye and Peebles and Viana do Castelo (Portuguese town).
Town hall packed to the gunnels. All went well in a rather haphazard French/Spanish way. Mr P’s speech was a success. Canapés and drinks after the ceremony, followed by a 5-course lunch with the Mayor and more drinks. Instead of a much needed siesta we then had guided tours all afternoon in the baking sun. In the evening more food, drink and raucous songs with the Portuguese delegation at the local rugby club.
