Light crimson underwing
I was very, very surprised to find this amazing Light crimson underwing in my moth trap this morning! Partly because I thought these moths flew in the autumn, but mostly because it is quite rare!
The Light crimson underwing Catocala promissa, is a rare moth which only occurs in the southermost counties where there are Oak woodlands. It is a Red Data Book species, with only 79 UK records on the NBN atlas, most of which are historical.
I am delighted!
This afternoon I went to West Hoathly, where I took a quick trip to see the church. The churchyard was a total delight, set on a steep hill in various terraces with steps up and down, interspersed with cute little places with a view to sit, I have added a shot of one such sitting place in my extras.
