Cable Car to Roosevelt Island

Having been to New York 4 times, I never knew there was a working cable car from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island....just 2 dollars each way and used by many commuters. Roosevelt Island used to be New York's dumping ground.....there was a prison, a sanitorium and a mental asylum....no wonder I felt at home!
