A Pair . . .

of Weka in my garden.  They are flightless rail like native birds.  I like seeing them silently appear in the garden.  I don't like the runny droppings they leave on the deck.  I like their antics of having a bath in this ceramic bowl.  We don't like them pulling out young plants.  The asparagus bed now has a chicken wire cover on it so they can walk on top but not reach through to get through to the spears.  I know the asparagus is confused and shouldn't be putting up spears in our winter.
I made a start on pruning the roses but after lunch had a wee nap because the World Cup Cricket last night meant I got less sleep than usual.  Who would have thought we would defeat India and get a place in the final.  Not me.  I did feel for India but The Black Caps bowled and fielded so well.
