17th July 1970

G and I drove up to Hull today for my Father in Law, Peter's funeral tomorrow. As with Gran this is being billed as a celebration of his long life. We are staying at The Lairgate Hotel in Beverley. We have a grand room with a four poster bed.

There is also a large wooden trunk (bought at an auction - it still has the lot number on it). It is lined at the bottom with an old newspaper - a copy of the Daily Telegraph dated 17th July 1970! This photo is of the "top sail training schooner, Sir Winston Churchill, 299 tons arriving at Dartmouth yesterday towing the 21ft sloop Sarnia Cherie which broke her ruddere off Start Point Devon." Built in 1966, apparently she was sold out of service in 2000 and re-fitted and re-engined in 2002 in the Isle of Man. I am not sure what happened next.
