A 365-Degree View
So - we've made it to 365.* It's been really fun and also really tough at times - and there are two of us to keep it going. Chris has stepped into the fore as I've been completing my degree or more recently off-colour, but the choosing of the images and words have otherwise been a truly joint effort. It's been fun, made us get out there and do things together, and have fun doing them.
Thanks blip, and thanks to everyone who have come along with us. It's been an awesome year, and we're leaving it with one more degree, one more Olympic torch and many more photographic skills. We've loved reading the comments and other journals on the site, and learning from others' ideas.
We have a great sense of achievement at having the discipline to have taken at least one picture every day and we have our cameras with us much more than we would have otherwise. And it's a fabulous record of the year: so many more evocative memories than words alone could express. We look back at the picture of our day at the Olympics and the roar of the crowd comes flooding back.
Today's picture was unlikely to contain a 365 specifically, as we'd planned to be out in London. In particular, we'd wanted for a while to travel on the cable car across the Thames that appeared in time for the Olympics. We headed into London and tubed it across to the cable car station.
Unfortunately, the wind was up and the cable cars weren't running. That's a 2 hour trip to look at an empty washing line! We're both quite easy going about such things though, and set about exploring the Royal Victoria Dock area instead. Wandering across the bridge and back to the DLR, we headed to Canary Wharf to look at the impressive skyline instead. The sun was breaking through the cloud, and while Chris photographed the glinting glass of commerce, I glanced back at the cable car in the distance.
It was running!
We jumped back on the tube, dashed to the other end of the cable car (by the O2) and joined the massive queue of people who came out of nowhere (having been presumably skulking around waiting to be able to go on it too). Happily, we noticed that Oyster card holders could avoid the huge line and go straight through - if you're not from London and visit, definitely get an Oyster card - they're useful anyway, but this saved us about 30 minutes of very cold waiting!
The views from the cable car are amazing - it goes to 295ft up in the air, and you get a fabulous view of the O2, Canary Wharf, Olympic Park and the city. The sense of space is amazing up there - with views all around (and then some :)). We travelled over and back on it with massive smiles on our faces.
So today on our special 365 day we have a wonderful memory and new experience to add to all of the others in the year. The folio has some other shots from the day.
See you tomorrow for a leap, then on to next year...
Annie and Chris

* The programmer in me can't help but wonder why blip can't tell it's a leap year and make the red balloon tomorrow, but hey...
