Beautiful Lake Hawea

Today the 18 members of the walking group parked at John Creek and walked from there along the cliff tops towards the Hawea township.  It was a beautiful sunny day, great for walking, not too hot +7C.

John Creek is named after the John family who first farmed there.

Hawea township is situated on the southern shore, and is a popular resort in summer for fishing, boating and swimming.  Hawea is named after a Maori tribe who lived in the area.  The extra photo is of the group walking towards the Hawea mountains.

We had a welcome cuppa at a local cafe before heading for home.  16,000 steps, or 11 km.  All in all a lovely day out.
