North Uist

You certainly don’t come to the Outer Hebrides for warm weather or indeed settled weather, but you do get a huge variation in a single day, usually with a stiff breeze. Today was no exception, it started damp, but then brightened so we decided to go and look at the machair at Rubha Àird a’ Mhuile. We parked and walked out to the point through the machair where the flowers were just really getting going; there were also lots of birds so we had great views of them too. We then went up towards Benbecula, and had lunch at the end of the causeway, but by this time the weather had changed to showers and the views were atmospheric. We headed on into North Uist and decided to go up the Marilyn of Maireabhal in the centre of the island. It was cool but sunny and the views were amazing over the loch filled low ground. The blip is a panorama from the top looking south east towards (from left to right) Lì Tuath, Lì a Deas, Eabhal, a shower over Benbecula and then Hecla and Beinn Mhòr with Barra in the far distance. To the west St  Kilda was also clear. We stayed for the night by Tràigh stir and went for a walk on the beach in the evening. The extra is a collage of an Arctic Tern, the view south to Barra, Beinn Mhòr and Hecla over Loch an Iònaire from the end of the causeway, Hekla from the point and sand patterns on Traigh stir.
