The Camping Queue...
We'd packed a wonderful picnic; salmon and prawn salad, Pimms, strawberries and cream, and headed for Wimbledon on the tram for a day of tennis. Something that has become one of the highlights of our summer. We are happy to sit with the crowds on The Mount and enjoy watching on the big screen.
Today, The Queue, as it is called, for day tickets was unbelievable and just as we thought we'd reached the end of it to join it, we were directed across a road only to see the queue stretch way beyond and into another distance.
Then we saw the camping field! More folks waiting and hoping to get tickets either for courts or even on The Mount over the weekend.
So....we ate our picnic in Wimbledon Park, sitting on our blanket and with plates and napkins...the lot. It tasted as delicious as it would have done within the grounds and the Pimms was very refreshing!! Disappointed not to get in but a privilege to be here today, on what proved to be a memorable day in the tennis season.
We sat and watched many happy, patient campers pass the time playing frisbee, football, tennis....anything really. It was all very orderly and well organised and everyone was so happy and the weather was perfect.
We watched the end of matches and the recap of play when we got home.
