Monkey Temple
Lopburi used to be the royal residence of King Narai in the 17th century.
Today's blip shows one of the remaining Buddhas at th Monkey Temple. It is a Khmer-like temple ntirely dedicated to macaques (blip nº2).
King Narai was the first Thai Sovereign to open up his country to the East as well as the West.
It is withing his Lopburi Palace (blip nº3) that he greeted the envoys commissioned by Louis XIV of France.
