I abandoned work given the news about my mother who seems to have slipped into a deep sleep.

After a visit to the improving aunt I spent several hours with mum but.no real response.

My brother and his wife arrived from near Reading and we spent some time talking to her in the hope she recognised we were present.

The transformation from someone who 2 weeks ago was making soup and sandwiches and chatting away has been dramatic. At 99 we knew a day like this would come but it is still a shock.

I headed back up the road and saw this view over towards Arthur’s Seat and the Castle.
