Philip in Yachats
Sue's eldest brother will be 83 this year, and it's a privilege to see him, as he doesn't always make it to family gatherings. Their Portuguese Roman Catholic family had ideas about sending their academically-gifted first son into the Priesthood, but Philip had other ideas. He trained as a family therapist and brings his empathetic understanding into his dealings with all of us, but in order to support his large brood of children, he also became an accountant who specialized in doing people's taxes for some years and is still working. Philip's loves, other than his second wife Carmen and his children and grandchildren, are the works of Bosch and Breughel. He has traveled the world to see as many of their paintings as possible, and he is knowledgable about a great many subjects. His kindness and humor, and his gentle energy, remind me of Sue's. From all I've heard about their father, I think they both resemble him in many ways.
Sue's father built the little cottage in Yachats where the family has gathered in summers since the 70s, although as the family grows, more people fill the local motels and BnB rentals than can fit into the cottage.
