Health & Safety Up in Smoke

It's Allendale's most aniticipated & celebrated night of the year.

Preparation for the Allendale New Year Tar Bar'l ceremony was in full swing this morning. As you can see, when we wandered up to the square, the mound was already taller than the high-viz man, built of barrels containing who knows how much high exploives, branches, bracken & twigs, & it was getting bigger by the minute.

With a fresh stack of branches delivered from one of the few local tractors that were lending a helping trailer or two, the gathering of Allendale-onians were launching the fresh pickings up & toward the two brave lads bouncing away on top.

As you can also see, it was pure coincidence that the man smoking a ciggy was wearing a fluroscent jacket, & at least the man on top didn't entertain such a dazzling opportuntiy for irony.

Tomorrow evening the flames & festivities will strike up in a blaze of colour & smoke. I trust these two will make it down Mount Allendale before the tar barrels arrive.
