Lockerbie sheep

Today's the day …………………… for a familiar sight

Looking for all the world as if they've just taken a wrong turning, these life-size sheep sculptures are to be found in the High Street of the little town of Lockerbie.

The sculptures are made of brass and were designed by Fife sculptor David Annand.  They celebrate the fact that Lockerbie has been home to Scotland’s largest lamb market since the 18th century.  They were installed in 2013 as part of a £1.2 million regeneration of the centre of the town.

The sculptures did not meet with universal approval when they first appeared.  Opinions were divided on whether it was the best way to have spent the money allocated - but I daresay that by now they have just become part of the town furniture ………………...
