Mermaid
A mermaid found a swimming lad,
Picked him for her own,
Pressed her body to his body,
Laughed; and plunging down
Forgot in cruel happiness
That even lovers drown.
- William Butler Yeats
A lovely day. Work in the garden, a read of my new book (Ruins of Ireland by the Irish Aesthete) down by the pond and then an afternoon trip to the sea. Oh boy - a lot colder than yesterday and a certain amount of swearing before I was in, but just look at the water. So clear you could see everything and I found a sandy patch. A mermaid had just past by. See extra for the bigger picture.
