Home of the Sirloin

Hoghton Tower, a Grade I listed building, is the ancestral home of the de Hoghton family. 
Located between Preston and Blackburn and, at 650 ft above sea level, it has commanding views over Lancashire and North Wales.
Not only is it reputed to be the second most haunted house in England, it also lays claim to be the birthplace of the sirloin.
Legend has it that King James I knighted a particularly tasty loin of beef during a meal here in 1617. The King ordered the Hoghton Tower pages to bring the beef to him. They did so and went down on their knees to present the beef to him, whereupon the king took out his sword and said "Arise, Sir Loin."
