Serpentine Pavillion

This year's Pavillion is designed by Junya Ishigami. His slate canopy covering the coffee shop immediately made me smile. We had seen a lot of these roofs in Georgia. It's like slate dry stone walling. I hadn't seen them in Japan however. (See extra).

Inside the gallery a fantastic exhibition be African American Faith Ringgold. She told figurative stories using quilting and embroidery techniques well before Tracey Emin. There is just so much to see. My favourite piece is the first quilt she every made. Called 'Who's afraid of Aunt Jemima', she tells the story of her ancestor as an entrepreneur after the dissolution of the slave trade.

Well worth a visit.
