They wanted something celebratory,
a piece the nation could gather round
and be proud of.

(Proud! – what a self-congratulatory word that is.
It turned his stomach and scared him).

Anyway, all he gave them was a mess of lines
and so they voiced their disapproval
and demanded their money back.

Fair enough!

But then there was talk of throwing him in prison
and turning a blind eye if other prisoners
chose to thrash him.

Someone mentioned putting him in a crappy little boat
and shoving it out to sea
and letting what will be, be.

So what if he ends up at the bottom of the ocean, or
(god forbid, ha-ha…)
on the shores of another country?

Well let’s just see what they make of him
the untalented ungrateful unpatriotic little shit.
