'Welcoming New Life'
WOW, what a day.
I was woken this morning at about 2:30 or 3:00am to the sound of chirping coming from our egg incubator, so like an expectant father got up to check out what was happening. No hatching yet but 4 of the 6 eggs had pipped which was a brilliant sign.
Couldn't go back to sleep, so I got up again at 4:00am and woohoo, 2 of the chicks had hatched. I had to wake Mrs R to tell her the good news. By around 5:30am another egg had hatched and all was looking promising and another egg had pipped. The fourth egg hatched at around 10:45am this morning while our big chickadee Dylan was a very sick boy all morning. He spent the first half a day throwing up and had a really sore tummy. By lunchtime and after a few pieces of toast with vegimite he started feeling better.
Dylan and I headed out to the shops after lunch to pick up a few things and while we were there I received a text message from Mrs R saying that No. 5 had hatched.
There is only 1 tiny little egg left which is not looking too promising, but 5 out of 6 eggs isn't a bad rate.
Late this afternoon we moved them out of the incubator and into the brooder that Mrs R has made for them complete with heat lamp and all the accessories. They will need to stay in there for probably the next 4 weeks or so.
This image was taken straight after they were moved into their new brooder.
Welcome into the world our 5 little Lavender Araucana chicks.
HERE are a few more images of them
