Green Fiddler Beetle

Eupoecila australasiae

My Mum actually found this beetle, not me, when she was dead-heading her roses. It stayed on the same rose for a long time (well over 24 hours!) with it's head buried deep in the pollen/nectar. My photographing it eventually annoyed it so much it flew off, with it's characteristic whirring noise. It is found from the tropics in the North all the way down the East coast to Melbourne.

And if you want to see a bit more of it, have a look at my new flickr account HERE.
