What happened?
All our food is covered up with this white stuff, and we're hungry. Now what will we do?
What they will do is mooch from the animal-loving people who bring them apples and corn (and sometimes other unsuitable things like lettuce and cabbage that's past its sell-by date). And if we have a lot of snow like this throughout the winter, some of them will become very thin by April. Many will visit the neighborhood outside the park boundaries and forage in gardens and bird feeders. They must be very resourceful, if they are going to survive during bad winters.
We woke up to about 5 additional inches of snow on top of the 5 inches that fell the night before. More has fallen during the day, and it is snowing now. It is beautiful, but it is hard on the animals, and I hate to think of the effect it has on people who do not have heavy clothes to wear and homes where they can go to get warm.
If you are going to bed in a warm house tonight, say a prayer of thanks and maybe even think of some little way you could help those who are less fortunate. Oops, sorry! I'll get off my soapbox now; it's just that I am feeling very aware of my blessings tonight and of the fact that not everyone is as blessed as I am.
