Sailors' Palace, Limehouse
At the end of Commercial Road where it meets West India Dock Road, the Sailors' Palace was erected in 1901 as the headquarters and hostel for the British and Foreign Sailors Society. Decorated in the Arts and Crafts style, it is lavishly decorated with nautical symbols and there are lots of inscriptions.
Extra 1, located over the road, is the Mission - originally known as the Empire Memorial Sailors' Hostel.
Extra 2, an interesting sign in privatised public space by the river.
