Caught
One of the pair of jays that visits the garden is always so dishevelled. It always looks like it's just got out of bed and forgot its featherbrush. It gobbled down a few mealworms then headed off with this monkey nut catch.
It was my last day (for now) at the Kings Cross office and I spent my day editing dinosaurs and chatting with my colleagues. I was given Wilding as a farewell present, which looks like a very fine read.
In the evening, I headed to the Natural History Museum for their Friday Late and meet a bookcrossing friend who I hadn't seen for quite a few years. She's a member of the museum and so took me as her guest to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. My favourite one is the image that won The People's Choice Award: Bond of Brothers. It reminds me of an expression that my cat Whisky used to show. It makes me cry remembering him – not in a bad way, I should add.
The winning images from the competition are here. The fox amongst children's gas masks in Chernobyl was stunning – that one is here.
After the exhibition, we chatted to various experts who were demonstrating various items in the main hall. Esther was bitten by a female lion (see extra shot) while my finger was nibbled by a kangaroo skull. We got to touch the various skulls and were amazed by the holes in the skull under the eyes that are for whiskers.
A fine evening and a big 'Thank you' to Esther for the company. Hopefully, it won't be so long until the next meet-up.
