all this useless beauty

"Where's Noddy Holder?"

The first thing I noticed when I arrived at The New Art Gallery in Walsall is that the voice of Slade front man Noddy Holder was no longer being used in the lift to guide you from floor to floor. Had someone destroyed the tape it in a fit of pique after hearing Merry Christmas Everyone for the millionth time?

Unfortunately the story is rather more mundane than that, and is simply because Nod's voice used to guide visitors to the cafe on the fourth floor, which hasn't been there for two years. They're hoping to get him back in soon to re-record an updated lift attendant script.

I really enjoyed the visit to the Art Gallery today and it was fascinating to see the Damien Hirst exhibition, which included Away from the Flock (the sheep in formaldehyde), as well as some wonderful Jacob Epstein works.

Today's blip was chosen by my wife. She thought the rainy scene summed up the day. She's probably right.
