The Loveliest Hours

The loveliest times of day
are sunrise and the hour
just before sundown, when
the last light leaps 
across the valleys
from hilltop to hilltop
bathing whatever it touches
in molten splendor
too beautiful to last.
Thus God reveals himself,
but sparingly,
at the break of day 
and the edge of night.
