Dark Red Helleborine

We joined a National Trust survey day on Helsington Barrows to search for this unusual orchid. It favours areas of broken limestone or ‘clitter’ and can survive drought conditions rather well.
We were pleased to find these ones fully in flower as most of them are not quite out yet.
Then on this afternoon for a walk with Tony and Heather at The Howe.
Exhausted!
