Snails Trails

Quite a relaxed day today.  We were not rushing away from last night's campsite taking time for breakfast -  then a spot of shopping for dinner later before heading to the Passchendaele Museum at Zonnebeke.  This is billed as a WW1 'experience' and done very well with good displays, an audio guide and a realistic interpretation of the trenches.  There were some very moving stories told such as the three brothers killed on their first day at the Front - such a huge waste of life for nothing.

We moved on to see Tyne Cot Cemetery - the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery in the world with almost 12,000 buried there of which 8,300 are unidentified,  All of them died fighting around the Ypres area but most were killed during third Battle of Ypres in 1917.  Such a waste of life from all over the world. Heartbreaking.  I'll add a couple of images in extras - it took a lot of waiting to get the view through the arch free of people.

We had decided to head further down, sort of intending to dip into Luxembourg  - we'll see whether that happens or not.  On the park4night app I had found a small site with good facilities and some interesting diversification on a Snail Farm.  The idea appealed.  We managed to get the last spot.  

After we arrived I was able to get some images of the snails being 'grown' in large poly tunnels - various sizes in this shot.  As they mature they are moved out into a field where they feed on foliage and a special feed.  They do move quite quickly - don't laugh - so it wasn't that easy.  These are destined for some supermarket shelf or restaurant!
