My wife and I had a pleasant afternoon in Carlisle, we met up with friends from across the boarder. We had a meal and  long crack to catch up on events since we last saw each other at the end of last year. In conversation we came round to the fact that Carlisle was,on a few occasions part of Scotland, and that is why Carlisle and even Maryport are not listed in the Doomsday book.
