Forest ..
of Foxgloves.
Less than two years ago Betty’s Wood, part of our St Ives woodland estate, was decimated to remove diseased trees.
It looked like the Somme. Last winter new broadleaf trees were planted but nature itself has been busy.
A few weeks ago we saw lots of wild flowers here and over the last week a couple of local blippers have posted Foxgloves growing up here. I felt I must come and take a look so persuaded my friend to come with me after Pilates this afternoon. They are growing in profusion everywhere so I wanted a blip that reflected that.
Nature is amazing and takes every opportunity to fill the gaps. The wood still looks pretty sad but this mass of deep pink is a spectacle worth seeing in itself. There are ferns, pink campion and a few poppies too as well as lots of self seeded trees. Good to walk through and see what is developing.
We then went to Ivy’s Kitchen for a cup of tea and cake! An afternoon well spent.
