Today was a sad day for our village, Braughing. The post office shut (with luck only temporarily) following the well-deserved retirement of Peter Jones, the postmaster, after well over 50 years of service to the community. Didn't manage to catch him before he pulled down the shutters but his daughter Nicki, who has been assisting recently and has also worked there for so many years, dutifully agreed to stand behind the counter. We all wish Peter well in the future and thank him for all his hard work and long hours. Also big thanks to his brother Ian who has also been running the shop - and still does - for more years than we can imagine!
The Post Office has not come out well on the whole closure business, delivering some misleading information, but it is hoped that there is still a future for postal services in this lovely village. Watch this space
