The Birks of Aberfeldy.

Robert Burns visited this spot and wrote a song/poem inspired by what he saw. Today he sits, immortalised forever in bronze, looking into the near distance beside the Moness Burn which tumbles and pours over various rocky falls.

It is a picturesque walk which we did this afternoon passing all the falls which are within a steep sided, wooded gorge covered in Beech and Birch trees.

Not as sunny and hot as a year ago but we were comfortable in shorts and shirts.

On the drive back I took a tiny lane which crossed the moorland. It was stunning and moving scenery and, out of the blue, we spotted a cuckoo sitting on a post right by the road. This is the closest I've ever been to such an elusive bird and it was being hounded by a little, unidentified, bird, possibly a marsh tit which is one of it's favoured victims.

A great day and a great place to walk in the shadow of such a poet.
