Culloden Moor

A couple of sad things today - we visited Culloden Moor this morning before driving up to Caithness to see our neighbours of ~24 years ago.

Culloden was very poingnant in that the story of the battle is very well told in the interpretation centre and in a non-partisan way.  I found it quite saddening to understand the terrible slaughter and the way many of the non combatant Highlanders were treated later, but also the naivety of Charles Stuart and his approach to his military commanders.

After that we visited our old house and neighbours.  Seeing a house one used to live in 24 years back is an interesting experience - things we put in still there,  things we put in which have gone and the story of the current owners all mixed in with memories etc.

Our ex-neighbours are having a difficult time, Pat is much as we expected, though obviously older,  Alastair is in the throes of Alzheimers and didn't recognise us.  We talked about our families but he didn't remember much - not even singing with Rachel when she was a child - which we had thought might be a strong memory.  Some small comfort in that he was not visibly distressed.

We're now at Brora, intending to move on to Rosemarkie tomorrow in the hope of seeing some Dolphins in the Morray Firth.

Apologies re the lack of comments - wifi continues to be difficult to come by and we are rapidly going through our mobile data for the month.
