Growing old disgracefully

By GOD

SWEET SMELLING CLEMATIS ARMANDII

We rescued this from an overgrowth of ivy a few weeks ago.  Today, my son and I hacked away another overgrowth of ivy at the far end of the garden.  I was reluctant to do so, cos it's so good for wildlife, but it had become Too Much of a Good Thing. More over, it was in constant competition with  a vigorous Hydrangea Petiolaris which is much prettier and just as vigorous.

The weather was blisteringly hot, so we could not work for long and I had to have a siesta as I was falling asleep over the Scrabble board.
