A Different Christmas
My heart was washed clean by the snow
And glowed in the dark morning
Waiting for you to gently trace its inner curve.
Our bodies sang with relief and pleasure
As we lay down together in the growing light.
Your fingers knew where to touch
And the blank page of my bed
Slowly filled with your lazy lover's scrawl.
Now I lie alone
Your stories and thoughts in my head
And like another Mary
In a different Christmas story
I ponder these things
And store them in my heart.
In blue radiotherapy gown, like another Mary...
