King's Cross
I was going to go and photograph Platform 9 3/4, from where the train leaves for Hogwarts, and the luggage trolley embedded in the wall but an assistant arrived to accompany my mother onto her train. Having handed over her disabled badge, I couldn't risk going back into the building. My apologies to all the Harry Potter fans for the missed blip.
I'm not modern architectures greatest fan but there are some things I really do appreciate and this foyer is one of them. It is stunning.
This morning I saw mother looking rather forlorn as she packed her cases and after a little thought decided to drive up through London rather than drag her around on the underground. She could at least have a peak at some of the lights and dream that my car might break down in front of Harrods. Mother appreciates views of shops and city chaos more than the green grass and sheep outside my windows! The traffic wasn't bad at all. Although I was expecting crowds of shoppers the streets, weren't empty, but far from heaving. We arrived with plenty of time to spare for a leisurely coffee before calling the assistant.
My mistake was to take the M4/M25 route home. I had assumed that it would be flowing freely given the lack of obstructions in the city. It really earned it's reputation as the UK's biggest car park this evening! I returned home just as a friend arrived. In the time it has taken us to drink a bottle of wine and put the world to rights, Mum has just rung to say she is home but there's a howling a gale in Dundee.
Well done Mum!
