Shag Feeding Time

When I popped down to Dunbar Harbour this morning I decided to concentrate on the shags nesting. The nests are quite big so it is not often you get a shot of the shag chicks except ,of course, when one of their parents returns to the nest with food. I could see the chick rising up to its parent's beak but did not realise until I was processing the images just how far the youngster dives into its parent's gizzard to obtain the regurgitated fish. It's head has completely disappeared down its parents throat.

Sadly the three gull chicks I photographed earlier this month have disappeared though the parents are still staying close to the nest and as yet their are not many gull chicks around.
