Homeward bound
Our Aeroflot flight left at 5, and took about 3.5 hours to Moscow, where we had to change terminals for the onward Aeroflot to Heathrow, 3.75 hours, then more bussing about to get from T4 to T5 via T2. This took almost an hour but luckily there were no holdups at passport control and checkin, and we arrived in Newcastle at 4pm, 19 hours after leaving our hotel. And guess what, our bags arrived too.
If you are ever tempted to fly Aeroflot, my advice is, check all alternatives first, because it is definitely the worse airline we’ve travelled with. (Though Mr C thinks Aeros Angentinos might top it). Neither flight had screens, so there were no films to pass the time. And the food- we got 2 breakfasts, one on each flight, and exactly the same. It was a cream-coloured mush, bland, gritty, gloopy and with fibrous orange bits in it. There was also a soggy lump of shredded cabbage with what could have been carrot, a dry roll with no butter and a processed sweet disc several months past its use-by date. On the second flight I asked if we could just have the “normal” option, which was an omelette (what’s wrong with that for vegetarians? I’m assuming they are confused with vegans) I was told we had to have what we ordered. I asked exactly what it was we had ordered. She said it was rice porridge with pumpkin. I did taste it, and it was so disgusting I preferred to be hungry.
When we arrived off the metro in Gosforth we had to go to #3 daughter’s to collect our car key. Nathaniel was peeking out round the street corner, waiting for us, and Ella came running up for big hugs. Their Dad was walking them to gymnastics club but we waited for daughter to arrive back from work at 5.30 to have a quick catch up.
Now home and our roses are still not out. It must have been really cold while we were away.
So back to Auld Claes and porridge as my mum would have said. Just so long as it is not rice porridge with pumpkin!
