Lewis orchid

This wonderful purple wild orchid is growing by the roadside in Bac - Back in English - on the Island of Lewis. I took the photo just after 10pm, when it was as light on this dull evening as mid-afternoon at home. Out for a leg-stretch after the long drive north, my pal and I were struck by the silence, broken only by a very persistent curlew, and the lack of house lights - have all the locals gone to bed already?

I shall be, I hope, more creative tomorrow, but right now my brain is dead - I woke at 6am to find a tick firmly established next to my eye and have been traumatised ever since. Watch this space ...
