All The Little Animals
Much to my relief Sunday dawn sunny and the forecast said the temperatures would rise. We did have to wait for the ice and snow to melt before we could open the boot/trunk of the car to put our suitcases in. We drove north through the park and to exit at Cooke City. I don't know if it was the sunshine but the animals were out. Our first stop was where the rangers had cones along the road. We found a park down a side road and walked back. A man with a spotting scope let us look at the bushes where two Grizzlies were eating. They popped their heads up from time to time. Then there was shaking of the bushes and they came running out. Not our way fortunately. The extra shows a photographer with the perfect view. After the bears disappeared we sat and processed what we had seen but everyone else just up and went back to there cars. Back at our car we saw Chipmunks and Marmots. Beside the Gibbon River we saw two black bears cross the road. There was a jogger on a trail near the road and three Mule Deer stood and watched him pass. The usual Bison in herds or solitary males off on their own. At Mammoth we were delayed by bambi and family. We stayed in the car but people were standing very close to the mothers and their young so they could get a selfie. Our final wildlife encounter was with Mountain Goats. They were high up on bluffs along Soda Butte Creek. Again a man with a spotting scope let us look at them. Goodby Yellowstone you have been fantastic. Yes there are big tour busses and lots of people but if you go out early or later in the day you do find solitude to enjoy this vast landscape and it does look like a wildlife documentary.
