Oor Wullie has appeared in a popular Scottish Sunday paper comic strip since 1936 with his trademark as a cheeky little spiky haired character wearing dungarees sitting on an upturned bucket. From today for a few weeks throughout Scotland, there is a trail with 200 sculptures of him in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness. Funds raised though ‘Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail’ will go to Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, and the ARCHIE Foundation, helping children in hospitals across Scotland. I saw a few but during this relatively sunny day after so much cool wet weather, this one in Edinburgh called ‘Flowers of Scotland’ seems appropriate.
The design is inspired by the resilient and beautiful flowers we have here in Scotland. It can feel cold, dull and rainy sometimes, but when the flowers are out, all is well in the world
