Between fen and mountains

Draining the land

The dykes usually have a trickle of water in them but they are fuller than I have ever seen them.  There is no real risk of river flooding in the village as it is on high ground, all of two metres above sea level!  There is still some standing water in the fields but the land drainage is generally very efficient. My heart goes out to the people of Wainfleet, not far away, where the river Steeping has breached its raised protective river bank and flooded many homes.  Nearly 700 hundred homes have been evacuated.
