This symbol of Britishness made me think about who we are. Below are all the statistics about us that seemed based on reliable data, published in The Guardian yesterday and today.

65% of women and 58% of men support gay marriage.
Given the chance, 34% of us would definitely vote to leave the European Union.
More of us shopped online on Christmas Day than ever before.
78% of us think the Olympics did a valuable job in cheering us up in hard times.
76% of us are against fox-hunting being legalised.

In our family, seven adults with combined ages of 349 years used one four-year-old as an excuse to go to the pantomime. Eight of us enjoyed it.
