Reworked

I had a lovely bit of news when I checked my emails over my porridge this morning.

A while ago pianist Nils Frahm released a mini-album of songs called 'Screws' that he recorded after a thumb injury had left him only able to play with nine digits, his remaining one being held together with some of the titular apparatus. The nine songs that came out of the recordings were a delicate series of solo, minimal pieces that I've played loads and loads since acquiring (it was and still is a free download, I'll give you a link at the end, although there's also an opportunity to buy a LP or CD as well if you want actual physical product in your hands).

Now, shortly after this album was released it was announced that Nils was keen to hear what other artists would make of these pieces and another project was announced whereby remixes, or reworks, of the original tracks could be submitted via a new website. I've been looking at the site over the last week and it's grown in size so that most of the nine tracks now have up to a dozen reworks attached to them, all of them available to listen to and many of them made as free download as well.

But what was this news I hear you ask? Well, there was a message sent to me overnight from my friend Trevor that the rework he'd submitted on Christmas Day was up on the site and there was a nice wee message from Nils up there as well. So, well done my pal Trevor (AKA Trev From Dev) and here's the link coming up to his rework - Si - Mortal Men Treatment. Well done that man, you put a smile a mile wide on my face today :-)
